Keep in mind that the purpose of an adequate warm up is to slowly divert the
blood from your organs and glands (this is what happens during your periods of
rest) along with elevating the body’s temperature for activity. By gradually
increasing the body temperature of the body, specifically the sport specific
working muscles, you increase the amount of blood flow (which
includes a high level of fresh oxygen), enhanced efficiency within the belly of
the muscle tissue and improved range of motion during activity. Notice that the
word slowly and gradually is used when it comes to your warm up. The reason
behind a gradual warm up is to lessen the shock to your organs and glands which
results in a muscular body that is prepared neurologically & metabolically.
By warming up completely, you literally make your exercise intentions easier on
your body which will result in a higher output of performance.
